I've turned 30!
This year, as my birthday came and went, I was especially thankful that my birthday comes around just as the seasons are changing. The fresh Spring air brings with it a feeling of rejuvenation, it brings fresh green grass and little splashes of wildflower color to a dull brown lawn. The sun has been shining brightly for a full week now, and I am thankful. Our garden is sprouting, our flowers are blooming, and our lives are speeding up.
As I reflect on the past 30 years, I am filled with excitement about the next 30. The first 30 years of my life were spent learning who I want to be, who I am, what really matters, and what makes me happy. I've graduated high school and college, had several jobs, been married and divorced and married again, given birth to 5 beautiful children, made friends and lost them, laughed, cried, and screamed. I've been lost and found my way with God, I've been confused and learned to trust my own intelligence, I've been lonely and found my life companion. I am hopeful with all of these experiences behind me now, I can just relax and enjoy. I want to smile and watch my children grow. I want to hold the hand of my husband as we love and laugh together. I want to feel joyous and proud, sad and excited as my children marry and/or move away. I want to feel peace as I learn to put more trust and faith in God.
I am thankful for the past and oh so hopeful for the future. :)

Getting ready to garden!
It's that time of year. We spent Sunday afternoon (before the Super Bowl) working in the yard. Hubby borrowed his father's tiller and he tilled up a huge chunk of yard for our soon-to-be veggie garden. Then he tilled another spot just big enough to plant watermelons, Yummmm... He says he needs to till it at least one more time before I can plant anything though. The kids and I are really excited and don't want to wait! So, I guess if the weather cooperates we will spend another day this weekend out in the yard. We will be planting Squash, Tomatoes, Onions, Cucumbers and Beans. I'd like to plant a few herbs too, and maybe plant a few bell pepper plants in a big pot. :)
We haven't forgotten the flowers. I've been looking online for flowers to plant in the front flower bed. It is in shade most of the time, and stays pretty wet. It looks like impatiens may be what we plant there. I have some bulbs left that we brought with us when we moved here, I'd like to get those in the ground too. They are amaryllis, calla lilies, and some irises.
I can't wait for our first Spring in our new home :)

Missing Spring Color
February has caught me by surprise!
I am glad that it is almost Spring because I miss the beautiful colors in my yard.
So, as I am thinking of bright spring colors, I thought I'd share some color with you.

New projects
I have been working on so many new projects this year.
I am learning to sew, and have been steadily working toward getting better. I made a toddler blanket for my nephew, and a t-shirt dress for my daughter. I'm also starting on a quilt. I want to make one for each child, eventually. I had purchased a few squares from my friend amamabear and have decided that is the best way for me to accomplish this... I get a variety of pre-cut squares for a low price! Perfect :)
On the crocheting side of things, I've teamed up with my friend Melanie over at blinky to start making these cute hats!

I've also decided that it's time to kick things into a higher gear. I want to work harder at school with the kids in the mornings, and then house/gardening in the afternoons, leaving the evenings for crochetmaggie business. I also have decided to do a craft show in the fall! I will be working toward that all year. Having something to work toward, I hope, will keep me focused and on task... We shall see!
